Ensconced in a tranquil seven-acre park, this modern museum displays an eclectic collection of Native American and Western art in three skylit galleries. The Austen D. Warburton Collection of American Indian Art and Artifactsa spans several centuries of basketry, pottery and other artifacts from California, Southwest and Pacific Northwest tribal traditions. Selections from the permanent collection, displayed in a gallery to the right of the central rotunda, include a 19C Albert Bierstadt landscape, an 18C William Hogarth engraving and a 17C Rembrandt etching. Temporary exhibits emphasize the diversity of contemporary art in the San Francisco Bay Area. A sculpture garden nestles outside the museum walls.
