Old Town Scottsdale
Old Town Scottsdale : Michelin's recommendations
A mock strip of the 19C West in the heart of swank Scottsdale, Old Town has wooden sidewalks, cigar-store Indians, rustic storefronts, and Mexican and Western art. To some, its highlight is a pink ice-cream parlor called the Sugar Bowl, an institution since 1958. Old Town borders Scottsdale Mall, an emerald fantasyland of gurgling streams and fountain pools. It includes the striking new Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, with changing exhibits of architecture, art and design. Also here: Scottsdale Center for the Arts and Scottsdale Historical Museum. Other attractions perpetuate the Old West theme. The quirky Buffalo Museum of America pays tribute to the American bison with eclectic memorabilia, from a family of singing buffaloes to buffalo banks made of cast iron. Rawhide Western Town re-creates an 1880s community with stagecoach rides, mock gunfights, Indian dances, camel and burro rides for kids, and a steakhouse for all.
