Frank Lloyd Wright, perhaps the greatest architect of the 20C, built this complex of low-lying buildings by gathering desert rocks and sand from washes, assembling them by hand to blend with 600 surrounding acres. Taliesin West, a National Historic Landmark, served as his winter home, studio and architectural canvas from 1937 until his death in 1959. Tours showcase Wright's talent for linking indoor and outdoor spaces with dramatic terraces, gardens and walkways. The site still holds a residence, archives, the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, and Taliesin Architects, a working design firm.
