A scenic ferry ride around some of the region's 743 islands disembarks at charming Friday Harbor. A cross-island drive brings you to Roche Harbor where you'll embark on a guided 3-hour 'Orca Search by Kayak.
While an orca sighting can't be guaranteed, there's plenty of other fauna that calls the Haro Strait home, including: harbor seals, great blue herons, bald eagles, kelp forests, river otters, lots of sea birds, and colorful inter-tidal marine life. Paddle around at least three wildlife refuges and along rugged coastline while taking in the views of the Olympic Mountains, Mount Baker, a cormorant rookery, and more.
Next, venture to Lighthouse Park for a picnic lunch and glass of wine, keeping your eyes peeled for orcas at the only state park in the country devoted to observing orcaLime Kiln State Park. Time permitting, learn about the area's fascinating history with a visit to the American and British Pig War Camps. Top off your day tour with a stop at either the San Juan Island Winery or the Pelindaba Lavender Farm.
