Downtown : Michelin's recommendations
On the bluffs above the Thea Foss Waterway, Tacoma's revitalized downtown is justifiably proud of its theater district (Broadway and S. 9th St.). The Broadway Center for the Performing Arts houses three theaters: the Classical Revival Pantages Theater (1918), which hosts the Tacoma Symphony; the Beaux-Arts 1918 Rialto Theater, where two ballet companies and a chamber orchestra perform; and the Theatre on the Square, home to the Tacoma Actors Guild. Nearby, the small but whimsical Children's Museum of Tacoma (936 Broadway) holds hands-on changing exhibits and activities for children up to 12 years of age. The city's Antique Row (Broadway between S. 7th and 9th Sts.) is lined with galleries, small restaurants and antique shops. Anchoring the east side of downtown is the red-brick Old City Hall Clock Tower (Pacific Ave. between S. 8th and 9th Sts.), an 1886 Italian Renaissance-style structure; and a 105ft totem pole (Fireman's Park at S. 9th St.) carved by Native Americans from southeast Alaska, ranks as one of the largest such totems in the US.
