La Hacienda de los Martinez Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

One of the few Spanish Colonial "great houses" open to the public, the fortress-like hacienda was built in 1804 by merchant Don Antonio Severino Martinez. Its windowless adobe walls rise above the west bank of the Rio Pueblo de Taos. Twenty-one spartan rooms, built around two courtyards, provide a look at frontier life. Period pieces furnish bedrooms, servants' quarters, stables, the kitchen and a large fiesta room. Weavers, blacksmiths and other skilled workers-such as quilters and santeros-often give living-history demonstrations.
