Tucked between I-82 and the Yakima River just south of town, this relatively young arboretum adjoins the Yakima Greenway and offers a pleasant stroll that takes in many varieties of flowering trees and an interpretive center where you can pick up a self-guided-tour map. Landscaped with patios, walkways, a large fountain and planting beds hemmed in by large rock borders, the low, red-roofed interpretive center houses a horticultural library. A short walk toward the river leads to the Japanese Garden, laid out around a small central pond fed by a small waterfall. Closer to the river, a wetland trail loops through a small section of freshwater swamp and marsh frequented by wood ducks, painted turtles and great blue herons.
