Although the surrounding confines have seen a flurry of restaurants opening (and often closing), Sushi Ran remains a desired spot among locals. These twin wood bungalows nestled on a picturesque drag might appear to be pure Sausalito, but inside, they echo loudly of Japan. A blonde wood sushi bar dominates the space ornamented with ceramic plates, kanji brushed on dangling banners, and artistic florals evocative of the minimalist style honed so well in the East. Of course, most admired are their lunchtime bento boxes, tempura, and superior maki reflecting Californian and Pacific Rim influences. But, do save room for charred baby octopus with long beans and Thai basil; grilled hamachi kama with ponzu; and Wagyu beef carpaccio with kaiware and wasabi oil.
