This is the highest continuous paved highway in North America, ascending rapidly from coniferous and aspen forests to treeless tundra at 12,183ft, and offering outstanding mountain panoramas. Viewing areas include Many Parks Curve and Forest Canyon Overlook. The Tundra Trail at Rock Cut, an interpretive path with signs describing the geology, botany and wildlife of this harsh environment, is short and gentle. Nevertheless, given this elevation, it may be challenging for flatlanders.
