Get an insight into Vietnam's religious diversity, and crawl through the network of tunnels at Cu Chi. Enjoy a local lunch with a local family and learn more about Vietnamese life.
Travel to the Vietnamese countryside, bound for the Tay Ninh district. While en route, stop for lunch with a local family and learn about the lives of the people in the area. Continue to Cao Dai Temple for the noon ceremony. Witness the Cao Daoism ceremony, providing insight into the religion. Discover the similarities Cao Taoism shares with Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Taoism, and Confucianism.
Departing from the Cao Dai temple, continue to the Cu Chi Tunnels, a series of tunnels built by local fighters during the Vietnam War as a base of operation for the Viet Cong. The location proved of significant strategic importance at the end of the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail, and was within striking distance of the southern Vietnam capital. The tunnel complex started as a place for locals to hide during air raids, but over the course of nearly two decades turned into an extensive complex of tunnels spanning nearly 125 miles (200 kilometers) and housing hospitals, schools, meeting rooms, kitchens, and sleeping quarters.
The Vietnamese government has preserved approximately 45 miles (75 kilometers) of the tunnels as a memorial park, through which your guide will lead a tour. Learn about the conditions in which the people within the tunnels lived, the hardships they faced, and the ingenuity employed to maintain life in the tunnels. Walk past huge bomb craters, evidence of the heavy bombing campaigns in the region during the wartime, and discover hidden entrances right beneath your feet. Step back in modern history you return to the chaos of Ho Chi Minh City.
