The Nguyen emperors were very much concerned with life in the hereafter and paid close attention to the design of their mausoleums. These grandiose complexes also acted as secondary residences during their lifetime, where the emperors enjoyed spending time while overseeing the construction work. Although each mausoleum has its own charm, they all follow the same layout, similar to a citadel and inspired by the tombs of Chinese emperors. These architectural gems are one of the highlights of Hué.
